1. World’s first self-driving taxis debut in Singapore

Select members of the public began hailing free rides Thursday through their smartphones in taxis operated by nuTonomy, an autonomous vehicle software startup. While multiple companies, including Google and Volvo, have been testing self-driving cars on public roads for several years, nuTonomy says it is the first to offer rides to the public. It beat ride-hailing service Uber, which plans to offer rides in autonomous cars in Pittsburgh, by a few weeks. Statesman.com

2. WhatsApp to share user data with Facebook for ad targeting — here’s how to opt out

Facebook-owned messaging giant WhatsApp has announced a big change to its privacy policy which, once a user accepts its new T&Cs, will see it start to share some user data with its parent company — including for ad-targeting purposes on the latter service. Techcrunch.com

3. Garmin released a luxury smartwatch for people who exercise

Garmin has a robust wearable lineup that includes activity trackers, smartwatches, and even an analog watch with activity features. Now it’s attempting to make a luxury smartwatch, and it’s not exactly cheap.
